what is night out for safety and liberation?
Night Out for Safety and Liberation is an abolitionist community gathering rooted in the belief that safety comes from strong communities, not policing. As an alternative to “National Night Out,” the event brings together organizations building safety through mutual aid, housing justice, immigrant defense, racial justice, and community care.
We challenge the idea that people are disposable, and that policing and criminalization create safer neighborhoods, while highlighting alternatives to police-centered public safety, and demonstrating those alternatives in practice. The event also includes a rapid response component to strengthen community readiness and solidarity.
Join us for an evening of food, art, community, and learning, featuring organizations from across the Westside working to build a world beyond policing.

We recommend arriving between 5:00 and 5:30 PM to visit organization tables, enjoy food, and participate in art activities before the speakers begin.

Bring yourself, your family, and your neighbors! We recommend wearing comfortable clothing, bringing a reusable water bottle, and a picnic blanket or folding chair if you’d like to relax on the grass.
