SUBJECT: End LAPD’s Partnership with Flock and all ALPR Vendors
To the Office of the Inspector General and Inspector General Mathew Barragan,
As a resident of Los Angeles, I am giving my public input to speak out against Automatic License Plate Readers. Angelenos, including myself, have been demanding an end to LAPD’s partnerships with Flock Safety, and all ALPR vendors.
Flock’s ALPR data has been used by LAPD to aid mass deportations, criminalize sex workers & protestors, hunt abortion seekers, stalk women, and spy on youth.
Flock’s ALPR data has been shared with DHS, ICE, and has been used to draw the map for abductions of undocumented folks in LA. No guardrails or reforms will stop this from happening! Information sharing between LAPD and federal agencies is baked in through Fusion Centers and the information sharing environment.
Automatic License Plate Readers do not keep us safe.
How many more times do we need to expose the harms, how many more families have to be kidnapped and deported, how many more women have to be stalked by police, how many more times does the public need to demand that ALPRs are shut down?
The OIG wants “public input?” Here is my input:
NO to guardrails!
NO to reforms!
NO to Flock!
NO to all ALPRs!
